Interview with...
Eric Douthitt
"Horsegod"
Galloping into stores and digital screens this year is Eric Douthitt's Horsegod. Eric had time to chat about his creation and his plans for the comic book...
JMH: What is Horsegod?
ERIC: Horsegod is an American Indian Deity that is looking out for animal and human kind from his cloud kingdom. Every so often he will come down from his home in the clouds and take a host (usually human) to right the wrongs that humans cause.
JMH: Can you describe the world/universe it’s from?
ERIC: Horsegod is in a dimension of earth where magic is alive and evil is in every corner of the world and is always trying to destroy the world and beings like Horsegod is there to save it.
JMH: Does Horsegod have supporting characters and if so can you tell CBI about them?
ERIC: There is Tapu-Wapa a medicine man who is the first to be a host for Horsegod and is fighting his brother Tapu Seke who is an evil medicine man, and is put in his place. Horsegod is only seen when he is in his host Tapu-wapa, otherwise he is smoke.
JMH: Was Horsegod inspired by anything from your past or real life experiences?
ERIC: NO not really, he started out as a Piece of artwork that seem to make a good story with possibilities of some interesting imagery.
JMH: Do your stories carry a message to the readers?
ERIC: NO it is just a fun story actually, spent several years slowly put it together. Finally, me not being much of a writer, had a friend of mine that is a wonderful writer, came up with the dialogue and script to fit my plotting and idea, it just really came together. Thus far I am really having fun doing the artwork and stuff.
JMH: Talk about the creative team involved with Horsegod…
ERIC: AS I said before I had a guy write the script for me based on my plotting and art, Horsegod was a product of my artwork and a lot of years developing him. So the only creative team in all is the writer of the script and myself with the illustrating. Very barebones
JMH: Will Horsegod be released in digital format, web comic, or print?
ERIC: I am hoping when It’s done ,there are 3 issues to the story so far, that is gets released in both digital and print if things really go well I may do webcomic as well, all depends how things go.
JMH: Where can fans get a hold of Horsegod?
ERIC: The variation I did a few years ago is available at www.indyPlanet.com
The present version is in production at present and is a totally different story all together. It’s like taking the Original Cyberforce by Top Cow from the 90’s and comparing to what they are doing now, they are two totally different story lines but basically the same characters just redesigned. Same Idea
JMH: Finally, is there anything coming up in further Horsegod stories, or other projects you want people to know about?
ERIC: I have 2 issues after this one written, Issue 1 is still in the penciling stages. I do have a project Called THE SEER issue 1 that I will be doing the lettering and coloring for in the near future. Along with projects I am doing for other people, that I unfortunately can’t talk about at this time.
JMH: What advice do you have for aspiring creators?
ERIC: Yeah Don’t give up on whatever story you have that you are trying to tell, that is what comics is all about is story telling with pictures, is a field that is a lot of fun to do when you get into it. It has been a blast doing the work I have been doing, and there is always room for improvement which is a lot of fun as well. Thanks for the opportunity to talk about what I have been doing.
JMH: Eric, CBI appreciates your time. ALL the best!
ERIC: Take care.
