CBI: At what age did you start writing?
JAMIE: I started writing when I was around 5 years old. I wrote songs and little stories. I didn’t take my writing seriously until I was in my 40s. Now, here I am.
CBI: Which authors have influenced your style or approach?
JAMIE: There are so many writers that I admire as far as style and technique. Frank Miller, David Michelinie, Ernest Hemingway, Shakespeare, and Lovecraft.
CBI: What characters/titles have you worked on in the past?
JAMIE: Most of my experience is in prose writing. I have sold short stories and I’m writing a novel. I am also working on a graphic novel, “John Heller - The Liberator”, which will be published by Markosia Enterprises. I have been given the opportunity by Lucky Comics to develop a creator-owned character called “The Red Spectre”. That project is currently in development.
CBI: How did the relationship with Lucky Comics develop?
JAMIE: I was friends with John Michael Helmer on Facebook. He watched my progression on The Liberator and gave me a shot at The Flame. It’s an amazing opportunity with a top-notch publisher that I trust. Writing comics is new to me, but I welcome the challenge.
CBI: What was it like working on the Lucky Comics “The Flame” character?
JAMIE: It’s been amazing. Pitching my ideas and synopsis was a great, creative process. Scripting has been a blast and watching this venture come to life, has given me a great deal of personal satisfaction.
CBI: What is it about the The Flame that makes him a dynamic character?
JAMIE: He has a great ‘origin story’ concerning the Sacred Flame. A fantastic canvas to fill in with detail and bring the character into a modern day setting. The original character wasn’t complex, but had cool powers and a resolute attitude. I make the character question some of his life decisions and I make it somewhat existential. It’s an interesting journey.
CBI: Will there be an issue #2 for you on the horizon and what can readers expect?
JAMIE: The script is waiting for approval, but issue 2 will definitely be released. Lucky Comics is dedicated to bringing the best comics to the reader!
CBI: Will The Flame #1 be released in digital format, web comic, or print?
JAMIE: The Flame 1 has been released on digital and will be released in print very soon. I think both formats are essential for every kind of reader.
CBI: Where can fans get a hold of The Flame #1?
JAMIE: You can order it through Drive Thru Comics site (www.drivethrucomics.com) or the LuckyComics.com. You can always message me on Facebook and I would be happy to send you the link.
CBI: Pitch “The Flame #1” in ten words or less…
JAMIE: A retired Flame comes out of retirement to face an old foe.
CBI: What other comics projects are you planning for the future?
JAMIE: I can’t wait for my original character, The Red Spectre to be introduced to the audience. It’s being produced by Lucky Comics and I am very excited about it. I am producing a graphic novel titled, John Heller the Liberator. It’s a labor of love and will be distributed by Markosia Enterprises,
CBI: What advice do you have for aspiring comic book writers?
JAMIE: Learn your craft and pay a decent artist to do the artwork. Comic book companies really don’t want scripts without art. Self-publish or submit it to the smaller publishers. Establish yourself! Believe, never quit.
CBI: Jamie, CBI appreciates your time. Thank you for the interview…
JAMIE: Thanks you for spending time with me. Comic books and prose writing is my passion and any feedback I get is appreciated! Everyone hang in there and stay safe.
