CBI: Who is Mister Web?

Ric: Mister Web is Professor John Bradford of Empire State University. He is an armchair detective from a law and order family, he became a costume Mystery Man to overcome the stain on his family by his brother, a career criminal.  His name comes from his desire to see criminals caught in a web of their own making.

CBI: Where did the idea for Mister Web come from?

Ric: Twenty years ago, I was writing for a FanFiction site and I wrote a Web story set in the 1930s. I've been a Web fan all my life. I was asked if I would let my story be used in a print publication and needed to change a few things. The Web became Mister Web and I changed a few other aspects to give him more of a Pulp feel. It never got printed and Mister Web gathered cobwebs waiting to be used. A few years ago, Mike Jones of YEET Presents offered to not only print my story but get an artist to make it into a comic book. Eli Jansen became the artist and it was printed in YEET Presents #23, my first comic book appearance as a writer. Recently, the incredible John Michael Helmer, publisher of Lucky Comics, offered me a chance to write for Lucky Comics and reprint the issue with a new cover, plus write a new adventure of Mister Web. This has made me very happy and I hope everyone enjoys my character Mister Web.

CBI: You character Mister Web has had an interesting path to today. Can you describe the adventure?

Ric: After Eli took the prose story and made it into a comic book with his art, a lot of things happened. The original story and all my notes on the characters were lost on my external hard drive when it died. I’ve had several serious health issues recently, but I am excited again to revisit the character. Lucky Comics was able to scan in the pages and now we are finally republishing this lost work with more stories to follow.

CBI: You have created a villain that will battle Mister Web named Death Archer. Tell the fans about your creator-owned antagonist…

Ric: Death Archer is not a G Rated villain, by any means. I’m writing a prose story featuring him and has already killed two people in the first page. He’s a psycho. I believe in the Alfred Hitchcock way of leaving the violence offscreen to the viewers imagination. I don't use graphic violence, profanity or sex in my stories. That’s just the kind of writer I am. In the story, Red Rocket meets Mister Web and Trixie when Mister Web's foe, Death Archer, comes to town.  Death Archer has recently escaped from prison to taken over a local mob.

CBI: What is your writing style?

Ric: I’m trying to write in the old Pulp style. Lou Mougin, a friend I've known for over 20 years online, is my inspiration for all the research he uses for his stories.

CBI: Which medium do you prefer writing for: prose or comics?

Ric: I would say that my style leans more to prose. I've been writing short stories since I was 12. It started when the class I was in was asked to write a short story on knights. My character was a young squire that at any other time would have no chance on becoming a knight. Thanks to several accidents that happen to the knights that were in the area, he is knighted and attempts to go on his quest.  The story ended in a cliffhanger, he is caught in a thunderstorm, while wearing a full suit of armor. I had ran out of time and had to turn it in. For some reason the teacher loved my story over the others and wanted more. I kept writing from then on.

CBI: What future plans do you have for Mister Web?

Ric: I have several stories in the planning stage for him and others in the Mister Web universe. One of those plans is for something to happen to a character from the first story.
